60% of TB patients are those who ride with us in the bus – in Uzhgorod specialists talked about what prevents from stopping the epidemic

Yesterday, September 17, at the hotel "Old Continent" a round table under the slogan "Stop TB together" was held. Coordinator of the meeting was Taras Kuzmov – a representative of one of the advocacy groups, namely, those that help lobby for the interests of a particular social or other group of people. As explained by Mr. Kuzmov in Kyiv they refuse to even speak about TB, let alone do something. So they went to the regions.

The discussion was attended by physicians, clergy, representatives of the Prison Service, Roma NGOs and journalists of the region.

Doctors have assured that 80% of TB patients in Transcarpathia are the representatives of the Roma population. And the most important thing is that they refuse to be treated, or interrupt patient treatment, thus only worsening their condition. Representatives of Roma organizations assured that it is all due to little work medical facilities conduct with residents of Roma camps. But later it turned out that Roma specially hide tuberculosis, because "it is shameful," thus extending risk. And Taras Kuzmov assured that not only Roma are potential patients, because "60% of TB patients are those who ride with us in the bus."

Treatment of tuberculosis is very durable.

Taras Kuzmov also asked priests from various dioceses to contribute to solving the problem of tuberculosis. He said that people rather listen to a spiritual pastor than medic. Priests assured that they were willing to help, but asked to understand that this is not their primary goal. "We can not begin to confession with the words: "When was the last time you had fluorography?" – said the representative of the Roman Catholic Church.
