A new criminal case is opened against Transcarpathian tunnel diggers

Prosecutors opened a new criminal case against Transcarpathians suspected of involvement in smuggling tunnel.

Today, September 17, Prosecutor of Transcarpathian region instituted criminal proceedings against two Transcarpathians suspected of involvement in smuggling tunnel on the unauthorized occupation of land (Part 2 of Art. 197-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Criminal investigation determined that the land, where the tunnel is situated, belongs to the relative of the two suspects. A check of compliance of land legislation established that the area of ​​the actual use of the land is by more than 0.04 ha larger than that indicated in the State Act, therefore the land of the above mentioned area has been illegally occupied by them from land reserve of the Uzhgorod City Council.

As previously reported, on July 20 the investigation department of the Security Service in Transcarpathian region opened criminal charges of illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine and committing illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of illegally manufactured tobacco (Part 2 of Art.332, Part 1 of Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

On August 23 Uzhgorod interdistrict court determined a preventive measure against two persons suspected of involvement in smuggling tunnel – detention for a period of 2 months.
