Last month the living allowance of some Ukrainian students was cut for about two hundred hryvnias. So with regard to the promised increase of payments to students given by the government, the actual increase will only constitute 5.5 hryvnias. Student activists have repeatedly appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers with request to return them the underpaid funds and raise their living allowance to subsistence minimum – 1,100 hryvnias.
Sergiy Tigipko, the Minister of Social Policy said: "If there are any appeals from universities or other educational institutions for refurbishment of reduced allowance, such requests will surely be met, and these the remaining amount will be paid. At the moment neither the Ministry of Education nor the Cabinet received such appeals."
