“Sunny” and tragic kids (PHOTOS)

Unique orphanage is taking care of the kids since 1961 in the Transcarpathian village Vilshany, which is 150 kilometers from Uzhgorod. It is a home for patients with severe psychomotor disabilities. The most common is – idiocy, mental retardation, moronity. These patients are completely dependant on the personnel. The children get here in different ways, but the most terrible cases occur when a child is found on a cemetery or in the garbage. Today 175 patients live here.Since 90-ies implementation of a new rehabilitation and treatment system has been started here with support of foreign humanitarian organizations. Currently Czech physical therapist is working here as a volunteer. He organized seven workshops in which children are taught to care for themselves, draw, and develop language and learn some practical skills necessary for their household – working in the garden, feeding cattle, weaving.
