Place where waterfalls born – Plitvitski lakes

Croatia is a very different country. Here you can find rocky mountain, clear sea, numerous islands, fields with vegetables and olive plantations and… almost our, Transcarpathian forests. It is this association causes unique forest near the lakes recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage – Plitvitski.

The National Park is almost 30 (UNESCO considers 19) thousand hectares where perhaps hundreds of thousands of visitors pass there every day. But it is allowed to do it only on the laid wooden decking – tracks. Although the word lake is primarily associated with bathing, this is strictly prohibited here.

Trees are the main secret of Plitvitskyi lakes. The local mountains consist of limestone, and when branches and leaves that fall from the trees in the water they quickly become covered by the sort of Cretaceous plants. These formations block reservoirs. This lake is constantly changing – waterfalls somewhere disappear and somewhere appear. As it was written on one forum: imagine you walk and they are born!

This place is marked as a garden of the devil on the maps of the 17^th century. 16 large and several smaller lakes are located at different heights and connected by 140 waterfalls. The distance between the highest and the lowest lake is 133 meters. Two dozen caves are hidden among them. Around the beech and pine forest that has survived from the ancient times, there live bears, wolves, and many kinds of rare birds and other animals.

The names of lakes are very interesting – Proschansko, Tsihinovats, Batinovats, Velyki Yovinovats, Mali Yovinovats, Halovats, Milanovats, Havanovats, Kaludzherovats, Okruhlyak, Kozyak and others. And the names of waterfalls are Batinovachki, Halovachki, Kozyachi, Milanovachki. The most beautiful and the most famous is the waterfall Zastavtsi, whose height is 72 feet.
