On July 28, a world-class tournament in speed badminton “Ukrainian Speedminton Open 2012” took place in sports complex “Yunost” ("Youth") in Uzhgorod. (Speed badminton was invented by a German athlete Bill Brandes. It is based on elements of badminton, tennis and squash).
The organizer of the tournament was the local club of speed badminton "Salamander". “Ukrainian Speedminton Open 2012” was attended by 57 participants from 7 countries. There were the representatives of Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Hungary. The competitions were held in singles and doubles in different age groups (10 to 60 years) in eight categories.
This is not the first competition of this level held in Uzhgorod – in December 2011 an international tournament also hosted in here. Recently, sportsmen from Uzhgorod Mikhail Mandryk, Alexei Filippov, Norbert Antolovsky, Victoria Tolmasyan and Sergey Dolbushev played at the third European championship in speed badminton, which took place in the coastal town of Porech (Croatia).
