Note
In Ukraine, each year more than 120 thousand new cases of stroke are registered. In nearly 50% of strokes people become disabled, dependent on others. One third of the patients are people of working age. The incidence of stroke in the Western region of Ukraine is 188 people per 100,000 of population. The main reason of stroke is untreated hypertension, but, unfortunately, many people do not know their level of blood pressure. This is despite the fact that there are 11.5 million people in Ukraine who have this disease. That is, one in four Ukrainians is under the risk to get a stroke and this threat is fatal.
Ukrainian Stroke Day-2012 on the recommendation of the World Stroke Organization will be held under the slogan "Do I know the first five signs of stroke?" Stroke is a disease that is much easier to prevent than to cure.
The statistics of strokes is unpleasant: 35% – patients of working age, only 8% of patients return to normal life. Those patients for whom the stroke was not fatal are suffering from various neurological disorders: from the loss of ability to move, memory and intelligence impairment. 20,000 Ukrainians become disabled as a result of a stroke annually.
The main event will be the National Stroke Day, which will be celebrated on October 29, 2012 in Kiev.
