The leaders of veterans organizations in Tyachiv and Rakhiv districts have recently appealed to the people’s deputy Vasyl Petevka with the request to help on the eve of Victory Day to honor veterans of war with … equipment of veterans’ organizations with the computer system "skype".
Vasily Vasilievich gladly responded to the request, and at the beginning of this week Vasily Vasilievich’s assistants, given the advanced age of each veteran, visited more than 90 of them in both districts and presented gifts – TVs, microwave ovens, coffee makers and mobile phones.
An 85-year-old Mikhail Verbishchuk is recalling how he carried a wounded comrade for 6 kilometres. He went through hunger, says the war was very difficult. “People were so hungry that ate sorrel in woods. When I was little I asked my mother for food but she just lifted her hands in dismay – there was nothing to eat … And then quite young he went to war.” Together with him his neighbor Ivan Yosypchuk served in Moscow. He studied at school 8 years and then was sent to war. Together with his comrades in 1946-47 he demined the whole Rakhiv district. Ivan Dyachun is already 88, he knows five languages – Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Czech and German. During the war in a 20-degree cold he swam across the river in a Polish village of Bestvina near Krakow. There, together with his comrades, they captured three Germans and a German boat. Vasilisa Turetskaya was a feeder of 310 soldiers – she cooked in the kitchen.
Also, on the eve of the holiday old men and women in Tyachiv and Rakhiv districts communicated with each other and numerous cousins, friends, family members, not only from other parts of Transcaarpathia and other regions of Ukraine, but also throughout the CIS through "Skype". Now, thanks to our fellow countryman Vasily Petevka, veterans will be able to see and hear even those dear people with whom they have been distanced.
