Poland called on the EU not to boycott Euro in Ukraine

Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Poland called on European politicians not to boycott Euro 2012. The office representative Marcin Bosatsky yesterday explained that the sporting event should not be combined with the case of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. This is reported by the Polish media.

Foreign Ministry at the same time reminded that Warsaw has repeatedly demanded the authorities in Kiev to respect human rights.

He stressed that the Polish side had warned the Ukrainian authorities on a higher level that it will harm the interests of Ukraine.

Poland’s Foreign Ministry representative said that, according to the Polish side, the calls for a boycott of Euro-2012 are absolutely unjustified. Bosatsky recalled Tymoshenko’s request not to let the interests of Ukraine become a hostage to the ex-premier’s personal fate. He added that Tymoshenko urged those who want to help her, not to harm Ukraine.

"Poland will follow the call of Yulia Tymoshenko", – added Bosatsky.

We remind that in particular European Commission President Jose Manuel Barrozu and European Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Viviane Reding decided to boycott the matches of European Football Championship in Ukraine. Ex prime-minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi and German Environment Minister Norbert Rettgen also call on the boycott.
