The active hydroelectric power stations implementation in Transcarpathia threatens not only with ecological disaster, the disappearance of many animal species including those which are in the Red Data Book list, but it is also economically impractical. The participants of the press conference ‘Forum of Transcarpathian Environmental Rescue’ announced it today, on April 26. In particular, the co-forum of Transcarpathian Environmental Rescue, the president of PO ‘Ekosphere’ Oksana Stankevych said that according to the experts estimate at the construction of 360 low power mini hydroelectric power stations will be able to maximum double that quantity of energy, which is already produced in the region with the help of the water resources. ‘As a result we receive 10-14% of the total electricity consumed by the region. It’s just ridiculous number across the country if to consider the fact that all the Transcarpathian citizens consume 1% of Ukrainian electric power’, – stressed Oksana Stankevych. She also said: ‘If one compares the damage which will be caused to the nature by the construction and the benefits which they can bring, this losses will be incommensurable with the achievements’.
The member of the Forum Presidium of Environmental Rescue Transcarpathia, the director of the International Institute for Human and Globalistics ‘Noosphere’ Oleg Luksha stressed during his speech that the construction of mini hydroelectric power station, which was adopted by the Transcarpathian Regional Council last year in November was not approved by any state commissions or agencies.
Co-chairman of Transcarpathian public center Vladimir Fescov said that currently on behalf of the Forum of Environmental Rescue Transcarpathia filed the lawsuit against the Regional Council’s decision on mini hydroelectric power stations. The activists, being afraid of delay in court proceedings asked the court to suspend the enforcement of the decision on the time of judicial trial.
