The uniqueness of Transcarpathia has many components. The most famous one is the geographical position on the main European crossroads. Therefore it is not surprising that many famous historical and even mythological individuals visited this province, Tchas Zakarpattia informs. Someone was hiding from pursuers, someone was here in transit and some even, according to legends, finished there their earthly journey.
It is at the bottom of an ancient river Tysa, say legends, rests in piece the body of legendary Attila. And the occurrence of the castle in the village Serednye is associated with the mysterious Knights Templar. One of the legends say that the wine cellars of the village Serednye was honored by presence of autocrat Petro I.
Staying in Transcarpathian region of the Hungarian national hero and poet Shandor Petefi is a historical fact too. Just as the fact that the last days of her life Imre Reves an outstanding Hungarian artist spent here.
It is believed that even Velykyy Kamenyar (Ivan Franko) visited our region. And the fact that Mykhailo Dragomanov visited Transarpathia is proved.
Kateryna Breshko-Breshkovska, one of the founders and leaders of Revolutionary Party, is known as the ‘grandmother of the Russian Revolution’ was hiding here from the persecution in 1905-1907.
However, in all periods in spite of the ideological transformation, Transcarpathia attracted many of those who left the mark in the world history, in its turn, forever entered in their hearts.
