We are used to seeing monuments to Taras Shevchenko in cities and villages. But Transcarpathians created a living monument to the poet. In Uzhgorod forestry, in Nyzhnye Solotvino, recently they planted Shevchenko avenue.
Many writers gathered there for its opening. Foresters helped them to cope with the unusual work for them and prepared planting materials and appropriate implements. The avenue appeared in the Derenivka tract. This is a very nice, sunny place, so they hope that it will become a green landmark for future generations.
This event was attended by the Consul General of Slovakia in Uzhgorod Janka Burianova, the deputy head of the regional council Andriy Serbaylo. They said that Shevchenko, same as hundreds of years ago, gathers around himself both his own and other peoples. The director of Uzhgorod forestry Ivan Kostiv said that there would be the white cedar, the fishtail ginkgo and the rare red-leaf beech in the avenue. These trees will grow here for dozens of years and will attract all those for whom Shevchenko is a symbol of Ukrainian spirit and honest conscience.
The birth of Shevchenko avenue is another opportunity for writers and all Transcarpathians to conduct readings here, celebrating significant events. In the natural environment, these events will be perceived truly naturally. The head of the Transcarpathian organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine Vasyl Husti said that such events would be continued in the future.
