The reaction to such innovations is two-fold. Some are happy with the changes, while others say it’s easy to get confused.
The developers of the ballots themselves explained that a new system of open list elections would be used in the local elections in autumn. In each constituency, several candidates are running from each party and people will be able to vote for a specific candidate from the party (right part of the ballot).
The developers also believe that the new form of the ballot will help the voter to easily navigate the new system and choose a candidate he or she trusts. You vote for the party with a checkmark, and put the number of the candidate next to it.
The barrier for candidates to participate in the ranking has also been reduced from 25% to 5%.
Most people believe that such a ballot will confuse voters even more.
