As of January 1, Ukraine has increased import duty for more than 100 groups of products. This is expected to give the budget additional 2 billion hryvnias a year. If the President signs the law the duty will increase by 5-10% of the value of the goods.
So, fresh flowers and ornamental foliage will rise by 10%, detergents, shampoos and other household chemicals and paints, varnishes, dyes, plastering materials, cement – by 5-10%. Some fresh fish (sardine, sardinella) – by 3%, mushrooms, spinach and capers – by 5%, plasticine kits for children and dental wax for prosthetics (making impressions) – by 6.5%.
Soon the retail price of vodka and cognac will rise – the resolution on a fixed minimum prices has been adopted by the Cabinet. So, 0.5 liters of vodka will cost not less than 28.5 UAH, "three stars" cognac will rise from 33 to 39 UAH, and 5 stars cognac – almost to 50 UAH. The next increase will be from March 1, 2013: vodka – to 30 UAH, and cognac – to 42-53 UAH. These innovations have been justified due to combating counterfeit vodka and the need to fill the budget.
