Many people walk through Teatralna square in Uzhgorod, some go to work, others – to school or just take a walk. Actually, it is considered the main square of the city, and is a meeting place both for Uzhgorod residents and for visitors alike. Here they conduct public festivals, city karaoke show, performances of various artistic groups and so on.
But it has a drawback that is impossible not to notice … The pavement on the square is "wavy." Probably, it copies its neighbor – the Uzh river. The cause of that is not known for certain, probably, because of old cavities, as experts say that there are basements under Teatralna square. In any case, the pavement is sagging significantly and it has been going on for years …
The Mayor Victor Pogorelov said that soon they would start the repair of Teatralna square – replace the pavement and even utility lines under the square.
Not long ago, the mayor even said that there was a project of the restoration of the square, however, this information was not confirmed in the city department of architecture and urban planning. Moreover, the City Council announced the competition of preliminary designs of the city center reconstruction.
However, there is not much more information about this. So, while Teatralna square goes in waves, we are waiting …
