It is stated in the statement released by the press service of Uzhgorod city council. The main reason is a dramatic decrease in payments for consumed water:
"On August 1, this year, the increase of tariffs is scheduled. In the last two months, a significant decline in payments for consumed water, as well as increase on the volume of water consumption in summer has been recorded. Debts are being accumulated, which could lead to the inability of the MU "Vodokanal of Uzhgorod" to pay for the consumed electricity and, as a result, disconnection of water supply and drainage system facilities from electricity supply."
It is also stated that the increase in tariffs is associated with "nationwide circumstances", including the rising cost of electricity, which is the lion’s share of the cost of water supply and drainage services – 50%.
The MU "Vodokanal of Uzhgorod" appeals to Uzhgorod residents and residents of surrounding villages with a compelling request to pay for services. Consumers, who have accumulated significant debts, have an opportunity to pay in installments.
