Vladislav Tovtyn will make a virtual trip to Uzhgorod of Czechoslovak period (Announcement)

Another open tour of Uzhgorod will take place on February 18, at 14.00 in the "Owl’s Nest". This time, its theme will be "Uzhgorod through the centuries: the Czechoslovak Republic."

After the First World War, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the accession of Transcarpathia to the Czechoslovak Republic, Uzhgorod life changed significantly. From a small provincial town of Austria-Hungary, it became a regional center, the capital of Carpathian Rus. It was a time of radical transformations: the emergence of new technologies, infrastructure and communications, promotion of sports, the dynamic development of cultural and political life.
Now, Uzhgorod becomes really multicultural. One could fly from Prague to Uzhgorod by plane, tourism began to rapidly develop in the region. There were many people who brought new ideas, fashion, aesthetics, food, music. At that time, Uzhgorod becomes the "Babylon of the twentieth century." The city was changing along with Europe, and it was a time when Uzhgorod residents once again had to answer the question "Who are we?" and to determine their self-identity.
How did all these changes affect the daily life of Uzhgorod? Where did they go to listen to jazz and watch a movie?     What entertainment was offered in Uzhgorod to tourists? We will find out all that during the virtual tour with historian Vladislav Tovtyn.
Admission fee is 55 UAH.
