Former mayors of Uzhgorod Emil Landovsky and Emil Popovich, as well as the current mayor Victor Pogorelov visited the ex-head of Transcarpathia, Uzhgorod honorary citizen Yuri Ilnytsky.
Yuri Ilnytsky, despite advanced age (88 years) is still actively interested in the life of the region, so he asked visitors a lot of questions about the political, economic and social situation in Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia.
Unfortunately, the years take their toll, so Yuri Ilnytsky’s health is not in the best condition. In particular, his sight has significantly deteriorated. Victor Pogorelov promised to help. Soon Yuri Ilnytskyi will be examined by an ophthalmologist and most likely will be treated, – the press service of the city council informed.
Reference: Yuri Vasylíovych Ilnytskyi was born in the village of Rostoka in Mizhhirya district in 1924, (then – Czechoslovakia). From 1962 to 1980 he was first secretary of the Transcarpathian Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. He enjoyed the personal sympathy of the USSR General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of 5 convocations. In 2006, he was awarded with the "Order of Merit of the III degree" for his outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the region, significant work achievements and on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine. Honorary Citizen of Uzhgorod.
