Varsonofy intends to erect the “skeleton” of faith in Transcarpathia

This week, Bishop Varsonofy, who has been heading the Transcarpathian diocese of Ukrainian Orthodox Church for a month now, gave the first press conference. The focus of the press conference was the importance of prayer, the issue of the Cathedral, work with youth and the creation of centers of assistance and volunteering – a correspondent of the RISU informed.

The nearest plans of the bishop Varsonofy are to arrange the documentation, to build the cathedral, diocese administration and churches in the region, because, as the bishop says himself, this "skeleton" is essential. He said that negotiations with the authorities of Mukachevo and Uzhgorod – two major cities in the region – on the possibility of the construction of the Cathedral in one of them had already started.

Another cornerstone of the new bishop service will be active volunteering: in every church of the diocese, there will be points of collection of aid for soldiers in the East for the 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade, as well as for those who have suffered as a result of the war with clothing, food, medicine or funds.

Recall that at the end of the last year Bishop of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Cyril (Mikhailyuk), while being in the area of ATO, clothed in cleric garments, was photographed holding weapons. Those actions of the Bishop were a gross violation of canonical rules. In this regard, on December 26, 2014. the Cynod of the UOC-KP decided to dislodge the Bishop of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Cyril until repentance.
