Uzhgorod ‘zebra crossing’, the markings on pedestrian crossings are vanished at all. Thus, the child, pupil of secondary school №2 was seriously injured at the pedestrian crossing which was difficult to notice last year. Pedestrians complain that drivers overlook markings and do not stop. That is why in order to cross the road pedestrian have to wait until someone ‘show mercy’ and stops. Besides, the absence of ‘zebra crossings’ causes serious accidents resulting in injury or even death.
Uzhgorod City Hall admits that the problem exists but there is no money for the markings. The only ray of hope is the project on the pedestrian crossings arrangement near the schools which is now being considered in the municipality. They say that the issue is merely technical, because the public activists collected money during the St. Nikolas charity event in Uzhgorod last year in December.
According to the state standards road surface markings have to be clearly visible at any time of day and in any weather conditions, resistant to temperature changes, mechanical and abrasive burden, chemical and meteorological influences. Markings should be done twice a year – in autumn and spring.
