On August 24-26, the town of Beregomet in Chernivtsi region hosted the Rogaine24 European Championship. Teams from 14 countries took part in it. During 3 days, representatives of Ukraine, Austria, Belarus, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Finland, France, the Czech Republic and Estonia were competing in Bukovina. The European Championship took place in Bukovina for the third time.
This time, the Rogaine Championship was held on the territory of Vyzhnytsia National Park. The area of the competition, which is more than 180 square meters, included slopes, small hills with ascents up to 400 meters and streams. The goal of the teams in the rogaine competitions is to collect the maximum amount of points awarded for visiting checkpoints within the set time.
Uzhgorod at these competitions was represented by athletes Oleksandr Zheliznyak, Kristina Bober and Andriy Vasilina. They are the pupils of the Transcarpathian Tourism Center. The athletes competed in the junior category for the longest time period – 24 hours. According to the athletes, rogaine has become popular among young people in recent years and is very close to sport orienteering. This is a team sport (two to five team members), which combines strategy and tactics, navigation on rough terrain, as well as physical endurance.
