Uzhgorod police are against gender violence

From November 25 to December 10,  the international campaign "16 days against gender violence" was held in the city of Uzhgorod, as well as throughout Ukraine. 

The campaign was launched in 1991 by the Institute of women’s global leadership. Every year it gets bigger and has a lot of fans, because the issue of overcoming gender stereotypes, the revival of family comfort, establishing peace and harmony in the family will never lose its relevance.

The purpose of this campaign is to draw public attention to two pressing problems: prevention of domestic violence and human trafficking, and activization of public organizations and government agencies to prevent violence, protect the rights of women and men in Ukraine.

 

One of the main functions of the police is fighting and prevention of domestic violence. Working in this area, district police officers and detectives of the criminal police for children of Uzhgorod city police department are cooperating closely with the Departments of Family, Youth and Sports, Services for Minors of local state administrations and NGOs. 

The police take measures to prevent domestic violence: discover the causes and conditions that contribute to its commission, take measures to address them, make preventive records of persons who are likely to commit domestic violence and carry out educational and preventive work with them, attend families, whose members are on records, receive and consider statements of domestic violence, refer victims to specialized institutions and issue protective orders.

Since the beginning of the year, district police officers have made 216 visits in connection with family conflicts, drew up reports against perpetrators under Art.173-2 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences (domestic violence) and brought them to administrative responsibility – Diana Dorohiy, Uzhgorod City Police Department informed.
