Uzhgorod places of interest: “Rakoczi Cellars”, “Bogolvar” or “Owl’s Nest”? (VIDEO)

History of one brewery ⠀
During the surge of winemaking and trade in Transcarpathia, a brewery was opened in the city. It was in 1781. ⠀
The building occupied a strategic location near the entrance to the Marketplace.⠀
It was composed of two parts: food and beverages were kept in the lower one, and the brewery was in the upper one. ⠀
In the mid-18th century, the brewery became the hotel called "Owl’s Nest", then – a ceramic school, and later – a carpentry school. ⠀
In the early 20th century, a wine bar was opened here, and in the 1940s the premises were partially demolished. The part that was the architectural monument was left intact.
The name "Rakoczi Cellars" is associated with the name of Prince Ferenc Rakoczi, who allegedly build these cellars for storing beer barrels.
