It was built in 1907 for touring companies and variety shows. ⠀
The theater was built by the city council. With the interior decoration, it cost 90,000 crowns. ⠀
The construction was carried out by Lipot Gamoš and Jožef Suhanek company. The work was of poor quality, and in the early 1930s, they considered demolishing the building. In 1934, members of the city council officially discussed this issue. ⠀
In 1936, the fire service and the police officially closed the theater building due to non-compliance with fire regulations. ⠀
In 1937, Zoltan Arato’s construction firm won a tender for the renovation of the theater. ⠀
The renovated theater building opened on May 27, 1938.
