That was quite an unusual decision by unknown “benefactors” to complement the well-known statue of "Uncle Kolya" in Uzhgorod.
Somebody has put a dozen garbage bags and other construction debris onto the sculpture, depicting the bag of the legendary character from the history of Uzhgorod. The bags have been piling in the middle of the central Korzo Street for two weeks and gradually they have become an integral part of the sculptural group.
Bronze "Uncle Kolya", the masterpiece of a young sculptor Mikhail Kolodko, represents a real character – a lamplighter, who was lighting street lights in Transcarpathian regional center for 40 years.
Being original in conception and embodiment, the sculpture became a tourist “city brand” on the very date of its installation and has been attracting tremendous attention of visitors. Until recently, every day, any time one could see groups of tourists or individual guests around it. They were taking photographs of this original work, embodying a certain stage of our city’s history and they were siling…
Uncle Kolya with huge bags of garbage is still embodying the next stage of our city – the stage of mismanagement.
The only difference is that you won’t see tourists here any more, photographing Uncle Kolya on Korzo Street. You see, they do not understand the "innovation" of our public utilities and municipal police. What can you do – ignoramuses…
Photos were taken today, in the morning, on July 31.
