“Ukravtodor” prohibited trucks to drive in daytime

The prohibition for traffic of vehicles with excess weight at temperatures of +28ºC and more has entered into force.

This was announced by the press service of the "Ukravtodor".

The road service explain: at high temperatures, the road surface is heated to critical level, namely more than 42ºC, resulting in dramatical loss of carrying capacity by the structure of pavement under dynamic load.

"Moving on the road, the surface of which is prone to deformation, heavy trucks with total weight of over 24 tons, with load of more than 7 tons per axis leave their marks on it – deep ruts which lead to formation of cracks and then large potholes" – the head of the operating maintenance of roads and traffic safety department of the "Ukravtodor" Oleg Fedorenko said.

He stressed that the ban would be applied only in hot weather, in cold days, traffic of heavy trucks will not be restricted.

"Start and end dates of temporary restrictions will be determined depending on the thermal behavior of air. The time of restriction will be set depending on the zoning of regions – in most cases from 9-10 to 21-22," – Fedorenko said.

"So, on behalf of the Ukravtodor, appropriate prohibitive road signs and information panels have been set in all regions of Ukraine, and the places of temporary parking of vehicles for the period of restrictions have been defined" – the press-service informed.
