From January 1 next year, Ukrainians, who do not have passports, every ten years will be receiving a special variant thereof – biometric. It is mentioned int the Law on the unified state register of population signed by the presiden.
The Parliament took into account comments of Viktor Yanukovich on the fact that people with religious beliefs may waive the new document. However, the journalists of TSN found out that the common database where everyone will be included – together with their face shape, fingerprints, property, disease, and signature – would be created.
Under the new law, new passports will be issued to children, those receiving the document for the first at the age of 16, women, changing surname after marriage, all those whose passports expire, people who have lost their old passport.
In addition, passports, which are to be issued starting from January 1 of the new year, will change beyond recognition.
Instead of a book there will be a plastic card with a chip, whereon a variety of data will be recorded: from fingerprints to ear cast. There is no exhaustive list in the Law, there are just the words "basic and additional biometric data."
However, such data will be entered in the passport only with the consent of the person.
It should also be noted that the internal passport will have to be replaced every 10 years. Each of them – except for the first one – will cost 120 UAH. For trips abroad one will need a separate passport, which will also be issued upon birth.
Children’s document will have to be replaced every 4 years.
The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has signed the Law № 5492-VI "On the Unified State Register of Population and Documents Proving Citizenship of Ukraine, Identity or Special Status of a Person."
