Ukrainians sell more currency than buy

Net inflow of foreign currency to Ukraine since the beginning of the month, as of May 19, amounted to 163 million dollars, with the inflow of cash over this period amounting to 30 million hryvnias.

This was announced at the press conference by the Director of Monetary Market Analysis and Forecasting Department of NBU Serhiy Korablin, the UNIAN reported.

The official also said that the net inflow of foreign currency to Ukraine in April amounted to 174 million dollars.

"There is a net inflow of foreign currency to the country, plus banks and customers sell more than buy," – he said.

However, Korablin noted that, despite the prevalence of selling currency over buying, the hryvnia exchange rate on the interbank market continues to be influenced by negative social expectations.

As reported, net sales of currency by population in April 2014 was 259.1 million dollars, while over the last 8 consecutive months, net buying has been recorded.
