Ukrainians may be allowed to withdraw deposits without restrictions – NBU

The National Bank of Ukraine will start the process of progressive abolition of restrictions on deposits of after cleaning the banking system in two to three months.

This was stated by the Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksandr Pisaruk in an interview with the UNIAN.

According to him, after cleaning the banking system, the NBU intends to work to restore confidence in the banking system, and for this clients should be allowed to use their money.

"Restrictions on deposits introduced as a necessary measure do not promote trust. The restrictions should be canceled and we will do it, but before that we had to clean the banking system of "zombie" banks that are not ready to support their liquidity. Then we will develop a plan for the abolition of restrictions – we are already thinking about it. In two or three months, we will begin to do it" – Pisaruk said.

He stressed that the abolition of restrictions will be a key element in restoring confidence in the banking system.

As reported, on March 20, the National Bank declared 2 more banks insolvent – "Astra Bank" and the "Kyivska Rus" bank.

In 2014, the National Bank declared 33 banks insolvent. since the beginning of this year, the number of insolvent banks with the latest decisions is 13.
