Catacombs-quarry in Mykolaiv

There are many different versions about the origin of Mykolaiv catacombs, and they are not mutually exclusive. The first version is that long tunnels, that run underneath the city, come from an unfinished plumbing of the XIX century. The second version attributes the building of the catacombs to the Turks, as yataghans were found in the tunnels. The third version is that during the construction of Mykolaiv, they needed a lot of stone. It was mined near the developed part of the city – within the Mykolaiv peninsula. The mining formed deep and branching catacombs, which, due to the natural expansion of the city, turned out to be under houses.

Price – 100 UAH.
