Dmytro Tuzhansky, a political scientist, an expert on the Hungarian issues in Transcarpathia, believes that today’s arson in the office of the Society of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia was a "war" of a third party against Ukrainians and Hungarians.
He told the Ukrinform
"Now, it is not so much about the office of the KMKSZ. It’s not about who in particular did it this time – whether someone from the pro-Russian organization "Phalanga", whose representatives are officially suspected of the first arson of the SHCT office on February 4, or someone else. The bombing of the SHCT office in Uzhgorod last night was just another provocation, which is a link to a full-fledged hybrid war that has been taking place in Transcarpathia for quite a while. The goal is obvious – to destabilize the situation in the region, to impose the war discourse in the peaceful region on the border with the EU," – Tuzhansky said.
According to him, at first, the Rusyn issue was actively exploited in Transcarpathia for this purpose. Since 2014, it has been Hungarian.
According to the expert, it is the security services, who are not adequately countering this war, that are primarily responsible for the current provocation. But in fact, many more people are responsible too: Ukrainians and Hungarians must finally understand that there is a third party against them, which pursues its own interests and goals, which poses a direct threat not only to the Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, but also to each individual party, Tuzhansky believes. According to him, this is a "war", where Ukrainians and Hungarians can only lose.
