Today, on May 1, a human rights organization Freedom House has released a report on the state of press freedom in the world. The situation in Ukraine, as it is clear from the results, has deteriorated for the last year, and the state of freedom of speech is rated as partly free. In general, it is the same as in the countries that have received from 30 to 60 points, those who have less than 30 are recognized as free, more than 60 – non-free.
Ukraine’s result, 59 points, led her on a par with South Sudan. Thus, Ukraine has worsened its last year’s figure, having ended up on the verge of the country’s recognition as such having non-free status of press, writes Correspondent.
Yet, among the post-Soviet countries the situation in Ukraine is not the worst. Belarus, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan turned out to be in the top eight worst in the world. Although a significant improvement in freedom of speech is set in Georgia.
The freest press is in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The USA takes the 22nd position, and Russia – the 172nd.
We remind that last year Ukraine having received 56 points, shared 121st place with Colombia and the Seychelles.
