Ukraine may receive a batch of vaccines against COVID-19: who will receive it in the first place

In cooperation with the international mechanism COVAX, Ukraine can receive a batch of vaccines for about 20% of the population

First of all, the future vaccine against COVID-19 will be given to people form the risk group, doctors and educators. This was announced by the Health Minister Maksym Stepanov at a briefing during a working trip to Chernihiv, the UNIAN reported.

According to Stepanov, on September 10, during a telephone conversation with German Health Minister Jens Span, he discussed Ukraine’s access to the future COVID-19 vaccine.

"So that Ukraine is one of the first to receive (the vaccine against COVID-19 – UNIAN), to be included in that queue," – the Minister said. "Yesterday I had a conversation with the Minister of Health of Germany. This country is one of allied countries that have ordered vaccines from the company AstraZeneca, which together with the University of Oxford came closest (to the development of the vaccine against COVID-19 – UNIAN), the third phase of clinical trials is nearing completion," – Stepanov said.

He also said that in cooperation with the international mechanism COVAX Ukraine can receive a batch of vaccines for about 20% of the population.

"COVAX is a global initiative for access to the vaccine, it clearly states that 20% of the population will receive the vaccine (about 8 million doses for Ukraine). The first to receive the vaccine are people from risk groups – people who have diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, medical workers who treat patients with coronavirus, educators. Those are in our, the Ministry of Health’s, opinion the people who should be the first to be vaccinated," – Stepanov said.
