At night, the border guards of the Chop detachment prevented two attempts to illegally move cigarettes across the state border. In both cases, citizens of the Czech Republic tried to move tobacco products through the checkpoint "Maly Berezny".
At midnight, two cars registered in the Czech Republic arrived at the checkpoint to leave Ukraine. While checking both vehicles, law enforcement officers suspected that they might be used for illegal purposes, therefore they had a sniffer dog to check the cars. The dog pointed at the two cars. Therefore, it was decided to inspect them in depth together with the employees of the fiscal service.
The results of the inspection proved that in both cases the dog was not mistaken. In the first car, an "Audi" released in 2002, border guards and customs officers found 267 packs of cigarettes of different brands. They were hidden in constructive cavities of the luggage compartment, cabin and under the dashboard of the car.
Ten minutes later, law enforcers found a cache with tobacco products in the other car. 306 packs of cigarettes of various brands were hidden in different places in a Mercedes made in 1997: in the dashboard, behind the glove compartment, under the rear seat, in the battery compartment and in the design features of the luggage compartment.
In accordance with the procedure established by law, both cars and the found tobacco products were seized by SFS employees. The total value of the vehicles and the cigarettes amounted to more than 106 thousand hryvnias.
