Transcarpathians should know: the procedure for document checks on Schengen border is changing

According to the resolution of the European Union, on April 7 the procedure for document checks at external borders of the Schengen area is changing – the Holos Karpat informs citing the Police.hu.

Any and all citizens leaving or entering the Schengen area will have their documents checked at the border for being forged, expired, listed as lost, stolen, void, and so on. Papers will be checked against the international electronic database.

Until now, such checks have been performed only selectively. Now not only the documents of third countries nationals will be thoroughly checked, but also those of Schengen member countries, including Norway, Ireland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. The papers of their family members will also be checked.

Such checks will be performed at the borders of Hungary with Croatia, Ukraine and Serbia.

Due to the introduction of electronic check, time of the border crossing will increase. Therefore, the competent authorities of Hungary ask citizens traveling outside the Schengen area to arrive at checkpoints earlier than the scheduled time. All the necessary documents – passport, driving license, registration certificate of the vehicle – should be prepared in advance. It is also recommended to check the authenticity of your papers in advance.
