Today, October 28, Uzhgorod celebrated the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Transcarpathia from the Nazi occupation.
Traditionally, Uzhgorod residents and guests along with veterans, management of the regional administration, regional council, Uzhgorod city hall and city council, representatives of the Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies, NGOs laid flowers at the monument "Ukraine – to liberators" on the Ukrainian-Slovak border, then – at the monument "To volunteers of Transcarpathia – participants of the Second World War", in a park near the hotel "Zakarpattya".
Then, there was a meeting-requiem where they commemorated the victims with the moment of silence and remembered millions of Ukrainians, who were defending Ukraine from Fascism in those long gone years.
Honored guests and organizers of celebrations together laid flowers on the Hill of Glory.
The event was attended by the regional council chairman Ivan Baloha, the head of the Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal, members of the regional and city councils.
