The very height of summer. In Transcarpathian villages, hard-working people are gathering the harvest of vegetables and fruits, and therefore there are plenty of tasty and useful products in the markets of the regional center.
But what about the prices? Usually, early vegetables and fruits are, to put it mildly, not too affordable for ordinary buyers. But now, at the end of June, the situation is changing rapidly. So, let’s go on the markets of Uzhgorod and find out what you can buy today and how much it costs.
It should be noted that the markets of the city are slightly different in terms of pricing. Therefore, we will quote prices at the most expensive one – the "Green Market" on Koryatovich square, and for comparison – at more affordable ones, such as "Bilochka" and "Drunk".
First of all, let’s see about potatoes. Fortunately, it is already less expensive and today it costs 6 to 12 UAH per kilogram, depending on the size, at the central market. At the other markets, you can buy small ones for 4 UAH, and largers ones for 9 UAH.
Do you like fried zucchini? You can buy them at 10 UAH per kilo. Or even at 6, if you decide to go to Belinsky street. Prices for cucumbers depend not only on the size but also on the variety. The prices range from 6 to 11 UAH.
Tomatoes! There are a lot of them, and the price range is probably the widest. On Koryatovich square, small tomatoes are sold at 15 UAH, but ripe and juicy ones are as much as 30-35 UAH. At the "Drunk" market, they are more affordable: from 11 to 25-30 UAH.
The time for pepper does not seem to have come yet. Green pepper is already available, but you’re are unlikely to find it at less than 30 UAH per kilo.
As for the red one, which is traditionally even more expensive, I did not see it today at all. Maybe, I just was not lucky.
Prices for dill and parsley do not vary too much, usually they are 4-5 UAH per bunch.
And what do you have for dessert?
Local fruits are also available in our markets. Moreover, spring cherries are practically gone, but peaches have appeared! To enjoy them, you’ll have to pay 25 UAH per kilo of small and green ones, or as much as 45 UAH for large and ripe ones. At the "Bilochka", they are a little cheaper – 18 to 35 UAH.
The prices for apricots are about the same – 30 to 45 UAH in the center and 17 to 25 UAH at the "Drunk" market.
The situation with berries is interesting and somewhat illogical. At the "Green market", raspberries, currants and blueberries are sold mostly in half-liter plastic cups, and the price is exactly the same – 20 hryvnias. In my opinion, it’s too expensive.
As an evidence of this, near the exit, a woman offered one liter of blueberries at the same price – 20 UAH. At the "Bilochka", they are about the same. From 15 UAH per half a liter to 25 UAH per one liter.
But at the "Drunk" market, they are indeed cheaper – I bought two cups of raspberries at 7 UAH per cup. But the blueberry is still more expensive, can’t buy it at less than 10 UAH. But I do not complain, it’s market after all. Besides, the prices will no doubt drop soon.
The situation is changing every day, so we just have to wait.
Enjoy!
