Transcarpathian Regional Council endorsed the Memorandum of national unity

In Kyiv, at the initiative of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Serhiy Taruta, they plan to sign the Memorandum of national unity, which is based on the appeal of representatives of the executive authorities and local governments to concentrate all efforts in order to restore law and order in our country, return Ukraine to the path of a civilized and peaceful progress. Deputies of the regional council supported the text of the Memorandum.

"We, representatives of local authorities and local governments:

– Defending national unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,

– Realizing our responsibility to the united Ukrainian people, each territorial community, initiate the signing of the Memorandum of national unity.

We stand ready to take on the responsibility of maintaining the constitutional order throughout the territory of Ukraine, ensuring full support of civil rights and freedoms, civic peace, ethnic harmony and economic and social stability throughout the state.

Our country is going through a difficult crisis that threatens Ukraine’s development as a civilized, democratic, sovereign state. Under these conditions, the local government, the consolidated stance of all the Ukrainian community, full implementation of the potential for inter-regional cooperation are decisive factors to stabilize the situation and prevent a national disaster. We believe that self-organization and self-management of communities is the foundation and guarantor of national unity and integrity of Ukraine.

We urge the central authorities to active cooperation with local authorities to restore law and order, return Ukraine to the path of peaceful and civilized development. To this end, we propose to implement urgent steps for the decentralization of power and reform of local government on the basis of the European Charter of Self-Government, to establish a solid financial base for local government, to ensure the elections to all government bodies with strict adherence to all legitimate procedures throughout Ukraine.

We call on all political parties to be guided solely by national interests and to refrain from actions that might aggravate the situation in the country.

We appeal to all the village, town and city mayors, heads of district and regional councils, the Supreme Council of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, deputies of all levels, representatives of government bodies at the local level to support our position and to rally around the goal to preserve national unity and territorial integrity. The support of this Memorandum is the first step on the path of dialogue and reconciliation. This is a common decision that underscores our commitment to build a democratic state, united Ukraine, where the rights and freedoms of every person are respected regardless of place of residence, nationality, religion, and political and cultural preferences. It is our duty to justify the confidence of the people and respond to their expectations," – the Memorandum reads.
