The Lviv Court of Appeals upheld the sentence for a 29-year-old resident of the city of Kyiv, who, in August 2018, was found guilty of violating the rules of road safety, which caused the death of several persons (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Thus, the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathian region proved in the court of first instance the guilt of the driver of a passenger car "Skoda Octavia", who, in January 2017, in Volovets district, exceeded the permissible speed, lost control and drove onto the oncoming traffic lane where he collided with a truck DAF.
As a result of the accident, the driver’s 25-year-old wife and a 22-year-old passenger died. Another 21-year-old man died in a hospital.
By the verdict of the Volovets district court, the dirver was found guilty as charged and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment with the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of 3 years. However, he did not agree with the court decision and appealed it.
However, the prosecutor’s office proved the offender’s guilt in the Court of Appeals. As a result, the panel of judges came to the conclusion that the arguments of the appeal were not substantiated. The punishment remains the same – 7 years imprisonment. The verdict has already come into force, the prosecutor’s office of Transcarpathia informs.
