Transcarpathian officials met with representatives of the OSCE

On Tuesday, November 18, the RSA received members of the OSCE – Dorin Fuzzley and Paola Maeli. They discussed with the head of the RSA Vasyl Hubal the results of the parliamentary election in Transcarpathia and other topical issues.

As the head of the region summarized during the meeting, in Transcarpathia, despite the general tension in the country, the election took place relatively normally, there were minor violations, which, however, had no effect on the election process.

Vasil Hubal gave the following assessment: "Frankly – given the events that are taking place in the East, I was hoping that the turnout in Ukraine in general and in Transcarpathia in particular would be higher. However, the expectations were not met. This, in my view, is a serious alarm signal, and we have to work so that people trust the government and participate actively in the electoral process."

Representatives of the Monitoring Mission also asked about participation of members of national minorities in the election. Thus, Vasyl Hubal informed that Vasyl Brenzovych, representing the Hungarian community – the largest minority in Transcarpathia – had become a member of Parliament. Then, the participants of the meeting discussed other aspects of social and political life of the region, in particular, related to the conflict in the East.
