Transcarpathian migration service: reasons that can not be the grounds to deny the right to vote

On March 31, 2019, regular election of the President of Ukraine will take place. The State Migration Service of Ukraine stresses that the passport of a citizen of Ukraine is the main document for the exercise of the right to vote at the said election and the grounds for receiving an election ballot at polling stations for persons who, on the day of elections, are 18 years of age and who are included in the list of voters.

According to the explanations of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine (Resolution of the Central Election Commission No. 268 of December 27, 2018), citizens of Ukraine do not need to submit any additional documents, except ID-card or booklet passport, for voting, since both forms of the passport are equivalent and self-sufficient.

In particular, citizens included in the list of voters at a polling station can NOT be denied the right to vote for the following reasons:

– because of the absence in the passport of a citizen of Ukraine a photo to be pasted when reaching the age of 25 or 45;

– because of the discrepancy in the electoral address of the voter or absence of information on registration of the place of residence in the ID-card.

We remind that in order to avoid possible misunderstandings on the day of voting, the CEC recommends to verify your personal data in the lists on the service of the State Register of Voters.
