Transcarpathian deputies ask to intensify the development of border infrastructure

 At the second plenary meeting of the second session of the seventh convocation, the deputies decided to appeal to the Cabinet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine regarding the building of checkpoints and improvement of the border control process on the western borders of Ukraine.

           Transcarpathia is a multinational region of Ukraine, which borders on the west with the four countries of the European Union. So, increasing the number and capacity of checkpoints across the state border of Ukraine has become extremely important in the process of setting up cross-border cooperation, the development of international humanitarian contacts, economic cooperation not only for Transcarpathia, but the whole country. Therefore, the associated problems require a rapid solution.

Building of checkpoints and improvement of border crossing procedures contribute to meeting the national-cultural needs of national minorities in the region.

Border infrastructure in the region includes 19 checkpoints, 18 of which are located on the state border with neighboring countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Romania) and one crossing point for air traffic – in the International Airport "Uzhgorod".

     With the increase in traffic during New Year and Christmas holidays, congestion on both vehicle and pedestrian crossings at international border crossing points on Ukrainian-Hungarian and Ukrainian-Slovak borders have become commonplace.

         So, given the above, and the aggravation of social discontent, the deputies ask:

– To consider the increase of staff, which conducts border and customs clearance, and the increase of the number of lanes on which such clearance is conducted during the New Year and Christmas holidays;

– To discuss with the Hungarian and Slovak parties the issue of joint border control at road crossing points;

– To consider the proposition of the Regional State Administration on the draft program "Construction and Reconstruction of the State Border for the Period to 2020" on the reconstruction of checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border "Vylok – Tiszabecs", "Luzhanka – Beregsurany", "Kosyno – Barabas" and "Dzvinkove – Lonya";

– To speed up the implementation of the Declaration of intent on the integrated development of road checkpoints at the border between Hungary and Ukraine of March 28, 2013 regarding the opening of new checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.
