Recently, Transcarpathian prosecution for supervision over the observance of laws in the field of transport launched an investigation into abuse of office by employees of the Chop customs (Part 3 of Art.364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the Transcarpathian prosecutor for supervision over the observance of laws in the field of transport Igor Syekhin, it was found that on the night of the 5th to 6th July 2013, Chop customs officials, in violation of the law, during the customs clearance of the vehicle with a trailer, which headed from Ukraine to the European Union through the checkpoint "Uzhgorod", knowingly failed to take measures to inspect the specified vehicle and other measures to prevent illegal transportation of smuggled goods across the border Ukraine. These actions led to the illegal transportation of tobacco products "Chesterfield" in total amount of 7,700 cartons across the customs border of Ukraine.
This batch of smuggled cigarettes was detected by officers of the Slovak customs with a dog and an X-ray device. Thus, at the Chop customs, the check over this fact was conducted, the results of which were sent to the prosecutor for taking a decision.
This fact was registered in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations under Part 3 of Art.364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and investigators of the Transcarpathian prosecution for supervision over the observance of laws in the field of transport initiated the pre-trial investigation.
