A citizen of Ukraine, who had allegedly smuggled tobacco products to Romania, was detained yesterday by the border guards of the Mukachevo detachment together with officers of the internal security of the State Border Guard Service.
Thus, while patrolling the border, border guards of the "Solotvyno" department heard the sound of a small aircraft engine. The response team was immediately sent to find its possible take-off and landing sites. They found a car Ford with Czech registration on the outskirts of the village of Solotvyno. In the luggage compartment of the car, law enforcement officers found a laptop which was used to control the drone. Subsequently, during the inspection of the area, the border guards quickly found the drone itself. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old citizen of Ukraine, was also detained.
During the exchange of information with Romanian colleagues, it was found out that they had found a package with tobacco products, which the citizen detained by Ukrainian border guards had probably smuggled to the neighbouring country using the drone.
To find out all the circumstances of the offense and to draft reports of administrative offenses, the detained Ukrainian was taken to the border unit.
