Transcarpathia has received a batch of vaccines against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and poliomyelitis. Purchase of vaccines was carried out centrally at the expense of state funds under the corresponding programs. The region received 72,508 doses of the Belgian vaccine Priorix (MMR) and 18,070 doses of the French polio vaccine Imovax. These immunobiological drugs have proven themselves to be effective and safe, are provided by the state free of charge and have been used in Ukraine and in Europe for many years.
As of today, according to the chief physician of the Transcarpathian Regional Clinical Infectious Disease Hospital Mykhailo Polyak, the number of children, who have underwent MMR vaccination, is critically low: only 25 percent (3,613). Since the beginning of the year, 2081 cases of measles have been recorded in the region. About 80 percent of the patients are children. The doctor is convinced that the availability od vaccines will reduce the number of infected people and stop the incidence rate growth. As of now, 70-80 people in Transcarpathia get sick with measles every week.
With the delivery of this batch of immunobiological drugs, the need for measles vaccine in Transcarpathia is fully covered.
Distribution of the immunobiological drugs to the districts is already underway, and by the end of the week citizens should be able to get vaccinated against dangerous diseases in all vaccination rooms of the region, the press service of the Regional Health Center reported.
