Transcarpathia as the most cinematic region – in the movie by Oleksiy Umansky

The film titled "Kino" (accent on the first syllable) tells about the history of movies that were filmed in the modern Transcarpathia from the birth of the cinema to the present days. Recently, there was the premiere of this documentary, which presents the most cinematic region of our country. The film was presented by its author Oleksiy Umansky. The rich history of the region: it having been a part of Austria-Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Carpathian Ukraine, Ukrainian SSR and the Independent Ukraine left many cinematic traces on cities and people of the Carpathian region. In addition, the local landscape and architecture, attracted to Transcarpathia even foreign filmmakers.

The film of Olekdiy Umanska is a continuation of his research into the history of world cinema in the context of Transcarpathia. In 2010, the author presented his first full-length documentary work "The sky, the mountains and the cinema" which explored Transcarpathia with regard to the films that were made there. The new work – "Kino" – contains the comments of people who were participants of the shooting process, reproductions of filming, highlights, footage from the film and unknown facts about the films, which were made in Transcarpathia, but were never released, such as USSR and Pakistan co-production "Island of horrors" (1991). The film reveals interesting facts that bring together the renowned Hollywood director Milos Forman, Eugene Hutz, the frontman of the band Gogol Bordello, cinema and Transcarpathia.
