A series of ridiculous mistakes made by tourists can completely spoil the impression of a holiday. Experts of CNN compiled a list of the most popular mistakes made by inexperienced travelers and told how to avoid them.
1. Too much baggage. The more a person goes to distant travels, the less things he or she puts in the suitcase. Because they know from experience that much of the stuff are not used on holiday at all. Statistics say that an average American tourist puts in a suitcase at least six things that never will be used during the trip. Experts recommend to follow the simple rule: one article of clothing for two days of vacation.
2. Excessive number of gifts. Experts recommend not to abuse shopping during the holiday and not to buy things as soon as you like it. It’s simple: most of the goods and souvenirs brought from the holiday are either substandard or worthless. The advise is simple: if you like something, you need to wait at least two days. If you still like it, then and only then you can buy it.
3. Roaming. What users call "international roaming" service, financiers call "dividends for shareholders." In reality, voice service in a distant country not only can take a lot of money, but also spoil the impression from the holiday because of worrying about problems at work. There is only one solution: do not connect the roaming before traveling.
4. The desire to stay only in the city center. Housing prices in the center of the most beautiful cities are extremely high, and taxi drivers when asked to go to the historic part of a European and Asian capital, sometimes raise rates many times. The ideal option is to live half an hour drive from the center.
5. Tourists regularly make mistakes in terms of purchasing tickets on long flights.Trying to find the chipest solution, people buy tickets a few months before departure or, alternatively, at the last moment. But numerous studies show that the optimal time to buy plane tickets is 21 days before departure for domestic flights and 34 days prior to departure abroad.
6. Exchanging money at the airport. Many believe that it is the most economic and safe way to exchange dollars for local currency. This is not the case. Experts recommend to find exchangers in large cities.
7. Buying cheap flip flops. Many people think, "I will wear them only for a week and in the country where no one will see me. Why spend money?". And then during long walks they rub their fingers and have to deal with swelling feet.
8. Refusal to eat outdoors. Most tourists deny themselves the joy of cheap local street food. Especially on a trip to a country of the third world. In fact, in almost 100% of cases they have nothing to fear: the locals like food poisoning even less than tourists. The easiest way to find the perfect fast food on the street and get a taste of the local food is to get in line to the store, where it’s the longest.
9. Incomplete insurance. Most inexperienced tourists think, "What can happen to me this week? I will be careful." In fact, saving a couple dozens of dollars can result in up to $ 10,000 bills for treatment. It is not the case when you want to save.
10. The desire to make more pictures. The obsession with photography is the main "disease" of modern tourists, experts say. Each captured image, as shown by numerous studies, prevents to fully enjoy the beauty of what you see. In addition, polls show that most tourists rarely revise their 500 photos from vacation.
