To the capital is less than 5 hours – opinion

Oleksandr Hanushchyn, the chairman of the Lviv regional council, considers it necessary to launch a high-speed train between Kyiv and Uzhgorod. He wrote on his page on Facebook:

"After the opening of Beskydy tunnel, I think it is necessary to launch the Intercity high-speed train between the capital of Ukraine – Kyiv and the regional center of Transcarpathian region – Uzhgorod.

I am convinced that the introduction of this high-speed route will give an additional impetus to the integration of several regions of Western Ukraine.

If we launch the Intercity high-speed train between Kyiv and Uzhgorod, everyone will benefit from it! It will be beneficial not only for the capital, which will have an additional train to Lviv and Uzhgorod. It will be also beneficial for Uzhgorod, as currently it takes almost 16 hours to get from the regional center of Transcarpathia to Kyiv. In addition, it will be beneficial for Lviv as a transit tourist center.

The railway company has already calculated the total duration of travel between Lviv and Uzhgorod with a new train – 4 hours 30 min. It is much faster than traveling by car.

I predict that launch of the Intercity train Kyiv-Uzhgorod through the Beskydy tunnel will significantly increase tourist flows and solve the problems related to the remoteness of Transcarpathia from the capital of Ukraine," – Mr. Oleksandr wrote.
