Almost every day Chop customs officers detect violations at the border, when the citizens resort to various ways of evading payment of customs duties. After drawing up protocols on administrative violations, the commodity expertises are held to determine the quality and quantity of goods, resulting in a significant impact on the final cost of violation items. The experts from the customs laboratory are involved for this.
According to the Chief of Uzhgorod service for customs authorities expert support of the Central Customs Administration of Laboratory Studies and Expert Work Hanna Turyanytsya, during 10 months in 2012 the Chop Customs sent 735 requests for evaluations and research. The lion’s share – 590 samples – concerned research on the content of controlled substances (narcotics, psychotropic substances and precursors). 133 samples of goods have been studied for identification and further classification, including 38 with discrepancies from declared characteristics.
Today, the sector of commodity expertise and preliminary evaluation is developing rapidly. Thus, the 203 conclusions and reports have been drawn, 763 samples have been investigated. Also forensic studies of weapons, car documents, etc. are conducted. In this sector 110 samples have been investigated.
Finally, Hanna Turyanytsya said that this year the customs laboratory in Uzhgorod received the delegation of Canada Border Services Agency who had come to implement international technical assistance project "Strengthening laboratory system of the Customs Service of Ukraine." As part of theoretical and practical training, the experts of the Service gained practical experience with modern equipment (high performance liquid chromatograph with detectors – refractometric and particles light scattering) – informed Victoria Senhetovska, spokeswoman of the Chop customs.
