2018 was a historic year for Ukraine. The year of achievements and changes. But still not a year in which the war ended. Transcarpathia, as a region with a special character, perceives all the events in the country and the world in its own unique way. Therefore, it has its own highlights of 2018. Here is the second half of our traditional photo review of 2018 with the photos of our author Serhiy Hudak.

July

Brigade training of the 128th brigade continues at the training range near Rivne. However, a tragedy happens: a mortar "Molot" explodes. The training is curtailed. These pictures were taken before the incident.

In Mukachevo, the Parade of Chimney-sweeps takes place for the third time. With guests from Hungary and Estonia. It was atmospheric and fun.

…And it was very, very fun, at the Uzhgorod regatta. About two dozen "boats" (homemade crafts, the more ridiculous the better) once again sailed down the Uzh.

August

Firefighting Championship of Ukraine takes place in Uzhgorod for the first time. The competition proved: they are ready to rescue us!

"Prayer for Ukraine" – a wonderful tradition to meet the dawn of August 24 with the Transcarpathian folk choir brought together many Uzhgorod residents.

Strongmen in Uzhgorod. The "Carpathian Bear" Strongmen Tournament is always spectacular.

And in Beregovo district, it’s time to make jam. The legendary Transcarpathian product is the focus of the event at the festival in the village of Hecha.

Uzhgorod commemorates the anniversary of the Ilovaysk tragedy. Never forget!

For several hours, people were trying to catch a swan with a broken, even crushed wing. Rescuers had to use a boat. Finally, the bird was taken to a veterinarian for surgery. Unfortunately, a few days later, the swan died from infection in the wound.

September

Time to go to school! The first bell rings in the oldest "Roma" school in Europe – No. 14.

Hot and important season. On Mala Hora, near Beregovo, harvesting in the vineyards of the leading winery of Transcarpathia – Chateau Chizay – continues.

October

Charity campaign. Transcarpathian rescuers, together with animal rights advocates of the "Barbos" NGO, initiated the project "Amazing Animals" and using photos urge people to adopt a cat or a dog from the shelter.

Life in Transcarpathia continues. Like the years ago, the Borzhava narrow-gauge train arrives right at the market station in Vynogradiv. But only a few times a week.

Transcarpathian winemaker… Oleg Skrypka. The famous musician and cultural figure together with wine-makers Chateau Chizay makes the wine "Kraina Mriy".

"Dynamo" plays with… "Mynai". The club from the village near Uzhhorod plays with the top football team of the country, moreover, at their own stadium. Of course, they lost, 1: 3, but they’re still proud!

November

November in Transcarpathia is surprisingly mild, warm, sunny – well, really golden! A real fairy tale is in the mountains, as well as in beech virgin forests, where there is an example of the amazing talents of nature: a karst bridge.

History and mysticism in the Mukachevo castle. Torch tour of the Palanok Castle is not just interesting, it’s an amazing experience!

Carpathians are a fairy tale. We will not get tired of repeating it.

Owners of cars with foreighn registration are protesting. Because of the too rapid innovations for drivers of cars with foreign registration, they not only block the borders, but also burn the tires on Narodna Square, imitating the Maidan.

The kitty Maki became the symbol of the charity campaign "Amazing animals". The initiative was supported by three regions, and thanks to the project, 13 animals were taken from the "Barbos" to new families, including this charming kitty.

December

Let’s go! The long awaited Intercity finally started running, the route is from Mukachevo to Budapest. 10 passengers took the first train.

Sweet and good holiday. The Gingerbread Festival was successfully held in Uzhgorod again.

2019 is at the door! Uzhgorod has beautiful Christmas trees and lit festive lights, preparing to celebrate the New Year hoping that it will be better. Happy new year from the team of Uzhgorod.in!
